On September 26, Thu Do Multimedia Company held a seminar on “Solving copyright protection problems for the digital music-cinema-television industry”, with the participation of many reporters from many major newsrooms, including VTC News. VTC newspaper
Current copyright protection solutions are not sufficient to protect digital assets and a more multi-dimensional approach is needed to address risks.
The loopholes of current digital copyright protection solutions
In the context of the extremely vibrant digital content distribution, the rapid development of OTT (Over-The-Top) television platforms and online movie publishers has brought users to a completely new era of entertainment content consumption. The convenience of accessing movies, TV shows and live music events directly on devices has transformed the way audiences interact with content.
However, this digital revolution also brings unprecedented challenges in content security and copyright protection, requiring the emergence of new solutions to protect content from a series of copyright infringement risks.
OTT TV service providers such as TV360, FPT Play, and online movie distributors such as Netflix, Hulu, and Hotstar have become important factors in the Internet entertainment ecosystem when meeting the unlimited demand for content. Therefore, ensuring the integrity and exclusivity of released content has become an important issue and is a problem that content owners and publishers increasingly pay attention to.
Although domain name blocking measures have also begun to be implemented in Vietnam; digital rights management (DRM) solutions such as Widevine, FairPlay, and PlayReady have been deployed to prevent unauthorized access and distribution, current copyright protection solutions are still not enough to protect and a multi-dimensional approach is needed to address existing risks. In particular, the problem that content providers face in DRM vulnerabilities is first of all the exploitation of packet spoofing to fool the authorization server (License Server) and bypass the authentication of granting permission to retrieve content for untrusted accounts.
In addition to DRM vulnerabilities, OTT TV providers and online publishers face a series of other risks that require comprehensive copyright protection solutions such as: the problem of using screen recording devices for playback or the problem of exploiting Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to circumvent geographical restrictions, allowing access to content from one country to distribute illegal content in another country…
At the seminar “Solving copyright protection for the music – cinema – digital television industry” organized by the Vietnam Digital Content Creation Alliance (DCCA) in collaboration with Thu Do Multimedia, the attending representatives shared information about the current situation of digital content copyright infringement in general, as well as the music, cinema and digital television industries in particular, and discussed the difficulties in applying solutions to prevent and stop copyright infringements.
Thu Do Multimedia has shared the Sigma Multi-DRM solution integrating artificial intelligence (AI) in copyright protection (commercial name Sigma Active Observer – SAO) to help content owners and online content publishing platforms protect copyrights of content products on the Internet.
Ứng dụng AI trong bảo vệ bản quyền: Lá chắn mới toàn diện hơn
To combat these diverse threats, Sigma Multi-DRM introduces a breakthrough protection solution – Sigma Active Observer (SAO). This innovative solution goes beyond the limitations of traditional DRM solutions, providing a flexible and active defense mechanism that proactively detects and reports copyright infringement threats.
The “heart” of Sigma Multi-DRM is SAO, a powerful software toolkit that redefines content security. SAO is not just a security layer of Sigma Multi-DRM, but also an active observer that monitors every aspect of content distribution and streaming. Using advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms, SAO goes further in detecting and scrutinizing every data exchange during the content distribution process on the Internet, specifically:
Multidimensional threat detection: SAO uses AI-driven algorithms to identify anomalies and potential threats at every step, including detecting cross-border distribution violations and packet spoofing.
VPN detection and suppression: SAO has the unique ability to identify VPN usage and eliminate attempts to exploit content access across different regions. This proactive measure strengthens geo-restriction and cuts down on cross-border unauthorized content access.
Packet spoofing resistance: SAO’s powerful AI algorithms recognize signs of packet spoofing and interference through hooks into services, repelling attempts to fool the license server.
User Behavior Analytics: SAO dives into user behavior patterns, instantly identifies suspicious activities and protects against interference. Access requests with mismatched information, for example, a TV access request in Hanoi but with user information in another province, will be scanned, etc.
Real-time information: The AI-based nature of SAO ensures real-time information collection and response, allowing operators to quickly confront threats.
For OTT TV service providers and online music and movie publishers, adopting Sigma Multi-DRM with SAO integration forms a comprehensive protection strategy. By adopting this dynamic solution, content providers can address important risks such as: Multi-dimensional threat protection; Protecting exclusive content; Enhancing brand reputation; Optimizing revenue; Proactive security.
With the ever-expanding content distribution environment and the increasingly complex digital content piracy problem, facing diverse digital threats is an issue that will persist in the digital environment. Sigma Multi-DRM with SAO integration provides a dynamic and comprehensive solution that not only maintains the security of content but also facilitates the sustainable development of the digital media industry.
By choosing Sigma Multi-DRM with SAO, OTT TV service providers and online movie publishers are demonstrating their long-term vision and commitment to content quality and security in the digital future.
