Tired of tangled cables and outdated TVs? Hotels are too! As guests demand top-notch experiences, traditional cable systems are becoming a thing of the past. Enter IPTV – a game-changer that’s revolutionizing the hospitality industry. Thu Do Multimedia will help you choose the perfect system for YOUR business!
IPTV
IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is a digital television service system that is delivered using the Internet protocol over a network infrastructure, which may include transmission over a broadband connection.
A common definition of IPTV is television, but instead of being broadcast over the air or cable, it is delivered to viewers through technologies used for computer networks.
IPTV In Hotels
IPTV in the hospitality industry is an interactive TV system designed specifically for the hotel environment.
This technology focuses on optimizing IP connections to provide highly personalized content to customers, thereby improving the quality of service as well as the experience of customers and for the hotel and resort business.
IPTV In Hotel
Pros for consumer
IPTV is revolutionizing the way we experience television, offering a level of convenience and interactivity that traditional cable TV simply can’t match!
As soon as guests step into the hotel, they’re welcomed with engaging programs showcasing the hotel’s fantastic facilities and rooms, giving off a warm and professional vibe. Unlike old-school TV, IPTV lets customers dive into all the content they desire without any restrictions—how exciting is that?
Plus, these interactive experiences invite guests to explore freely, boosting both service quality and customer satisfaction.
And let’s not forget about the seamless viewing experience—no lag here thanks to a rock-solid Internet connection!
For hospitality service
The utilization of IPTV services has become increasingly familiar to enterprises within the hotel industry. Given the significant advantages that this system offers, it is foreseeable that IPTV will eventually supplant traditional cable television programs entirely.
The following are several reasons why businesses opt for IPTV as a medium for both promotion and entertainment for their clientele:
Economical, smooth operation
When it comes to running a hotel, every penny counts, right? That’s where the magic of IPTV systems comes into play. Imagine this: instead of dealing with the hassle and expense of traditional satellite or cable installations, your hotel can tap into its existing internet infrastructure. This streamlined installation process is a game-changer for cost-effectiveness.
By leveraging what you already have in place, you save big on installation costs. It’s like finding money under your couch cushions—only better! These savings mean you can allocate resources to other important areas that enhance guest experiences or improve operational efficiency.
So, whether it’s upgrading room amenities or investing in staff training programs, the benefits are clear. By choosing an IPTV system, you’re not just cutting costs; you’re opening up new opportunities to elevate your hotel’s services without breaking the bank.
Incredible compatibility with Hotel Models, unmatched efficiency!
The IPTV system operates very simply, based only on an Internet connection. That is why this system is widely applied in the largest hotel and resort chains in the world, including
Grand Hyatt Singapore is a luxurious hotel that implemented an IPTV system in 2014. The system included guest room televisions with easy-to-use interfaces and a range of features, including high-definition video-on-demand, internet browsing capabilities, and access to various hotel services. This system allowed for a seamless and highly personalized guest experience.
As a result, Grand Hyatt Singapore saw the guest satisfaction rates jump from 80% to 90% following the implementation of the IPTV system. Furthermore, the hotel saw a 50% increase in in-room dining orders, thanks to the convenient ordering process that the IPTV system provided.
One of the world’s largest hotel chains, Marriott International, also implemented an IPTV system across hundreds of its properties worldwide. The system enabled guests to watch videos, browse the internet, and access various hotel services easily.
The system was particularly successful in Marriott’s luxury properties, where it contributed to a 20% increase in revenue per available room. Additionally, it led to improvements in operational efficiency and savings on the costs of printing menus, room service brochures, and other informational materials.
Melia Hotels is a Spanish hotel chain that implemented an IPTV system in its Sol Hotels in 2015. The system included an advanced video-on-demand functionality that allowed guests to access a comprehensive selection of movies, TV series, and documentaries.
Melia’s IPTV system
The IPTV system also allowed users to browse the internet and access a range of hotel services, including room service, spa treatments, and concierge services. Melia Hotels reported that the implementation of the IPTV system led to a 20% increase in overall revenue across the Sol Hotels portfolio.
Since IPTV systems can be embedded directly into building lobbies, IPTV is the most effective marketing tool, as guests can clearly see what the hotel has to offer, right in front of their eyes.
IPTV allows hotels to showcase their amenities, local attractions, and promotions directly to guests, effectively acting as a marketing tool that can enhance revenue and guest satisfaction.
Branding
In today’s bustling hospitality scene, it’s more important than ever to stand out. One cool way to boost your hotel’s brand is by offering a slick IPTV experience. This modern tech not only makes guests happier but also gives you an edge over the competition. By giving guests a smooth and personalized entertainment setup, you’re likely to rack up positive reviews that show off your commitment to innovation and guest comfort.
Plus, having a top-notch IPTV system means satisfied guests are more likely to come back for another stay because they love the convenience and luxury of upgraded in-room entertainment. As travelers look for hotels that meet their digital needs, adding IPTV shows you’re on top of what today’s guests want and focused on delivering awesome experiences. In the long run, this smart move can really boost your brand’s reputation and keep you thriving in the market.
Cable TV and IPTV – A Long Lost Battle!
Although cable TV has been the go-to choice for hotels, it has several disadvantages when compared to IPTV systems:
Limited content options
With traditional cable TV, guests might feel stuck with just a handful of channels that match their interests. This can be pretty annoying, especially if you’re into niche shows or foreign language content. In our diverse world today, having access to a wide range of content is super important, and sadly, cable TV often doesn’t quite hit the mark.
IPTV Hotel
Moreover, cable TV channels frequently suffer from delayed updates or limited access to recent movies and TV shows. This lag can be a significant disadvantage compared to IPTV systems, which offer the latest content as soon as it becomes available. For those who crave up-to-date entertainment options, waiting for cable providers to catch up can be an exercise in patience.
One of the most exciting opportunities for improvement with cable TV is the potential for personalized viewing experiences! Imagine the thrill of having channels tailored just for you, instead of sticking to a preset lineup from the provider. How amazing would it be if guests could dive into a vast array of content and craft their own playlists that perfectly match their unique tastes? The possibilities are endless and so exhilarating!
IPTV systems present a compelling modern solution, providing extensive libraries of on-demand content and customizable viewing options tailored to meet viewers’ specific desires.
As technology continues to advance, adopting these sophisticated systems could greatly enrich our entertainment experiences and effectively fulfill our varied viewing preferences. Embracing IPTV is not just an upgrade; it’s a strategic move towards a more satisfying and personalized entertainment future.
Inflexibility
Cable TV systems often face challenges due to their inflexibility, and it’s understandable how this can be frustrating. Updating channel lineups or introducing new content offerings can take a considerable amount of time and incur significant costs because of the intricate infrastructure that supports these networks.
It’s important to recognize the complexities involved and approach these issues with patience and understanding as we navigate through them together.
Logistical Challenges: Implementing changes to cable TV systems often requires physical modifications to the network, such as adding new cables or reconfiguring equipment.
Additional Costs: Any updates or changes to cable TV systems can incur significant costs, including equipment upgrades, labor, and potential disruptions to service.
Conversely, IPTV systems provide significantly enhanced flexibility. The streamlined content management process allows hotels to efficiently add or remove channels, update content offerings, and implement new features. This agility empowers hotels to swiftly adapt to evolving guest preferences and market trends.
Poor Interactivity
Cable TV lacks the interactive features that are now standard in modern entertainment systems, such as pause, rewind, and user-generated playlists, which is a huge down-grade.
In today’s digital era, the desire for interactive television experiences is more pronounced than ever. This interaction is precisely what makes television programs so captivating.
Consider how enriched a vacation could be if every hotel room offered a TV that allowed guests to engage with various applications, participate in Q&A shows, or simply have the ability to pause or rewind at their leisure. Such features would undoubtedly elevate the overall experience, blending convenience with entertainment in a meaningful way.
Cost
Cable TV providers often impose additional costs on hotels, which can significantly impact operational expenses. These costs may include:
Rental Fees: Many cable TV providers require hotels to rent set-top boxes for each guest room. These rental fees can add up over time, increasing the overall cost of providing television services.
Additional Charges: Cable TV providers may also charge for premium channels, on-demand services, or other features, further increasing costs for hotels.
IPTV systems can help hotels reduce these operational expenses.
By eliminating the need for physical set-top boxes and providing a more flexible content delivery model, IPTV can lower overall costs and improve profitability.
Other factors to consider when choosing a hotel IPTV system
Understand WHAT You NEED!
Before diving into the technicalities of hotel IPTV systems, it’s essential to assess your specific requirements. Start by determining the number of rooms in your hotel, as this will influence the scale of the IPTV system you need. Next, decide whether to invest in new television sets or retain the existing ones, which could significantly affect your budget.
Establishing a clear budget is crucial, as it will guide your choices throughout the selection process. Additionally, consider the functions and features you desire from the system, such as video-on-demand or interactive services.
Lastly, think about whether you are launching a new hotel, upgrading an existing one, or outfitting a hotel currently under construction. A comprehensive understanding of your hotel’s needs will facilitate a more tailored solution from potential suppliers.
Types of Hotel IPTV Systems
The market offers three primary types of hotel IPTV systems, each with distinct characteristics and functionalities. Familiarizing yourself with these types is important for making an informed decision that aligns with your hotel’s specific needs.
For instance, some systems may offer cloud-based solutions, while others may rely on on-premise hardware.
By comparing the differences in features, flexibility, and scalability, you can assess which system best suits your operational requirements and guest expectations. This step is critical, as the right type of IPTV system can enhance the guest experience significantly, while the wrong choice may lead to operational challenges and dissatisfaction.
Brand Options
When it comes to brand options for hotel IPTV systems, you’ll need to weigh the pros and cons of established brands versus lesser-known ones. Well-known brands often come with the promise of reliability and customer support, but they may come at a higher price point, maybe out of your business’s capabilities.
Conversely, lesser-known brands might offer cost-effective solutions but could lack the same level of support or advanced features. It’s advisable to conduct thorough research by exploring blogs, reviews, and videos to gather insights about different brands.
Understand the variations in pricing, compatibility, and features among brands to ensure that you choose one that aligns with your hotel’s image and operational requirements.
Cost – Cost – Cost
COST is a significant factor when integrating a hotel IPTV system, and it extends beyond the initial purchasing price. Once you have identified the type of system you want, you will need to account for various costs associated with the installation and operation of the system.
This includes purchasing costs, freight costs for shipping the equipment, installation costs, ongoing content licensing fees, system maintenance expenses, and any customization costs that may arise. A whole bunch of additional fees that you may and will have to pay for this service.
To avoid unexpected financial burdens, you need to have a detailed discussion with your chosen IPTV system supplier about all potential costs before finalizing any contracts. Clear things out between the two!
This proactive approach will help you budget effectively and ensure that you’re making a sound investment.
Packages and services included – Highly Important!
The range of services offered by suppliers can significantly impact your overall experience with the IPTV system. Some suppliers may only provide the hardware, while others offer comprehensive packages that include installation and ongoing support. When evaluating suppliers, consider the level of service that aligns with your operational capabilities.
Having a supplier that provides installation and maintenance can alleviate the burden on your staff and ensure the system runs smoothly. The quality and availability of support services can make a considerable difference, impacting everything from the initial setup to daily operations. Therefore, it’s vital to choose a supplier that offers the right level of service to meet your hotel’s needs.
Compatibility
Compatibility is another critical aspect to consider when selecting a hotel IPTV system. Some systems may require specific compatible TV sets and additional equipment, such as satellite dishes or streaming devices, to function effectively.
Additionally, robust internet infrastructure is often necessary to support IPTV systems, given their reliance on high-speed data transmission. Assessing your current infrastructure and determining what upgrades may be needed will help ensure seamless integration and operation of the IPTV system.
Being proactive in this area will not only enhance guest satisfaction but also streamline your hotel’s technological framework, allowing for a more efficient and modern service offering.

The rapid pace of technological advancements is reshaping every industry, and the content industry is no exception. To stay competitive and deliver high-quality, engaging content, understanding emerging trends is crucial. Let’s explore some of the key content trends that will dominate 2025 with Thu Do Multimedia!
1. The power of AI
AI is no longer a stranger to most of us. It’s a topic that has dominated social media and mainstream news for years and years!
For content creators like, AI has emerged as a game-changing tool. With its user-friendly interface and widespread accessibility, AI has significantly streamlined workflows and boosted productivity:
Highly Personalized Content: AI can deeply analyze user data to create content that perfectly aligns with each individual’s preferences and needs. This enhances engagement and marketing campaign effectiveness.
Diverse Content Creation: Beyond text, AI can generate high-quality images, videos, and audio, opening up countless new creative possibilities for content creators.
SEO Optimization: AI-powered SEO tools analyze keywords and optimize content to rank higher on search engines, increasing content reach.
Time and Cost Savings: AI automates many repetitive tasks, reducing errors and shortening content production time.
With such features, AI has been and is still one of the top trends in innovation. And in 2025, who knows what AI can do?
How should you be using AI in your personal work
While AI has become a valuable tool for content creation, it’s essential to remember that human creativity and originality remain irreplaceable.
While AI can assist with tasks like generating ideas, conducting research, and even writing drafts, it’s crucial to maintain your unique voice and style.
This distinctiveness and weirdness will set your content apart from the competition and resonate with your audience, which make you SPECIAL!
There are a plethora of ways to use AI tools in your content creation process, but here are some ways I’m using AI as a writer:
Generate ideas, especially about range that you’ve never heard of before
Draft article outlines
Rephrase paragraphs or phrases with a specific tone
Repurpose blog posts into social media posts
Say goodbye to burnout and hello to a healthier work-life balance. AI can help you streamline your workflow, reduce stress. Your back will thank you after!
Work Smarter with these 4 Best AI tools
AI may greatly simplify your work as a writer, from ideation to outline creation to content reuse.
Naturally, artificial intelligence won’t perform your finest work for you. We are aware that the strangeness and wonder of human creation cannot yet be fully replicated. However, AI can relieve you of some of the workload so you can concentrate on developing your content.
However, it can be challenging to determine which AI tools and software are worth your time (and money) given the constantly expanding array of options available on the market, all of which claim to be able to help you generate, streamline, and automate your writing process.
Buffer’s AI Assistant
Best AI writing tool for social media content
The AI Assistant from Buffer was designed with social media in mind. Buffer allows you to schedule your material as you generate it, which streamlines the content production process (no more copy-pasting to different social networks, which is particularly tiresome if you’re cross-posting to numerous platforms).
The fact that Buffer’s AI Assistant is aware of the subtleties of every social media network is its best feature. For instance, you won’t go over your character limit when creating content for X (previously Twitter). Additionally, it has been trained to make Instagram posts more lighthearted and LinkedIn posts more formal.
The assistant’s editing buttons are another time-saving tool. Simply pick Rephrase, Shorten, Expand, More informal, or More formal to come closer to the information you want without having to type further instructions to the Assistant to change your post.
Another time-saver is that you can utilize these buttons to edit certain sections of your posts rather than rewriting them from scratch.
Beyond these basic functionalities, here are some of my favorite use cases for writers who want to develop their own brands and produce more material for social media.
Personalized ideas
As a social media manager and creator, I can tell you that social media writer’s block is far worse than ordinary writer’s block. Maybe it’s the sheer amount of material you need to produce. Who knows?
Thankfully, I’ve discovered Buffer’s AI Assistant, thus this is no longer an issue. I go to Buffer’s Create Space, where I brainstorm all of my post ideas, and click the Generate Ideas button when I’m at a loss for what to post.
The assistant will ask you two questions in order to better understand what will appeal to your audience:
What do you do for a living?
Who are you trying to reach?
After that, the Assistant will produce a flow of concepts for you to evaluate, one at a time.me. On each one, you’ll be able to hit Use it, which will open a pre-filled post creation window, or Try another to regenerate.
Repurpose other posts and content
One of the best use cases for this tool is the ability to repurpose content that has performed well or rewrite it to be more appropriate for another platform.
I often use the latter to rework posts I’ve created for LinkedIn into a Twitter thread, something that took me ages to develop!
Something else I’m leaning into right now is repurposing older social media posts into something fresh. There’s a fair chance a huge chunk of my audience missed certain posts, and those who saw them likely won’t remember if they did (especially if the original post has been given a glow-up).
I also use the AI Assistant to summarize entire blog posts I’ve written into bite-sized social snippets — another thing that used to take me ages.
Free and limitless on all Buffer plans
Unlike many other AI writer tools, especially those built for social media, there’s no ‘credits’ system in place. The AI Assistant is free to use, as is Buffer (for up to three channels). When it comes to the number of prompts and rephrases you can submit, the limit does not exist!
As one of the first AI writing tools to market (then known as Jarvis), Jasper has had time to hone its UI and feature set.
Along with AI text generation for a plethora of specific projects — everything from landing pages to full-on marketing campaigns, Jasper also boasts Remix (a dedicated tool for reworking content via a link, uploaded document, or text), Chat (a back-and-forth chat box with the AI to help you brainstorm or hone ideas), plus a Chrome extension.
Jasper has moved beyond just copywriting and now aims squarely at marketing teams. The collaborative features mean everyone can jump into various documents and view projects and campaigns at a glance with nifty Kanban and calendar views. Managers and editors can also add in things like brand voice and style guide documents to ensure things stay on track across all content pieces.
When writing, Jasper’s intuitive system will ask you to enter a simple prompt or choose from a list of templates. From there, you’ll be asked for more information upfront, which differs depending on what you’re working on. Before generating your draft, you can add things like your target audience, specific points to include, and more — but the AI can predict these things so well that this usually just involves choosing from some recommended options.
While Jasper is intuitive and great for teams, it’s worth noting that the foundation of the tool is the same as most of the other (cheaper) options on this list. Jasper “uses over a dozen language models,” but the marketing copy generated is similar to what you’ll get from ChatGPT and other AI writing software.
Copy.ai
Copy.Ai: Best AI writing tool for automating repetitive writing tasks
Copy.ai is another tool on this list that has outgrown the content generation mold it was born into. The multifaceted tool aims to help Sales and Marketing teams go from “go-to-market bloat to velocity.”
What that means in practice is a slick tool a lot like Jasper. However, Copy.ai places more emphasis on repeatable workflows that will help save marketers (or salespeople) time — think “repurpose this blog post into a LinkedIn post,” “Check this copy for plagiarism,” or “Find prospects at company X.”
You can choose these workflows from an impressive library or customize your own. The finished product will look something like a flowchart, where each step in the process is effectively an AI prompt (or a series of them).
ChatGPT
Best free AI writing tool
You might be surprised to find ChatGPT in and amongst some of its more niche competitors, but I’d be remiss not to mention it here. As a free AI writing tool (for GPT-3, at least), ChatGPT is one I keep returning to for quick ideas, blog post outlines, and goofy metaphors.
ChatGPT, a chatbot based on Open AI’s GPT model, is what many of the bells-and-whistle-filled tools above are built on and what helps generate the copy that lands in their fancy interfaces.
Learning to prompt ChatGPT takes some doing — I tend to err on the side of providing as much context as possible — but the chat-style interface can be helpful as you refine your ask and tweak prompts as you go.
2. Infographic
About Infographic
Infographics are a combination of images and information that needs to be conveyed. 45% of marketers often use this content marketing trend to convey content quickly.
Here are some statistics that Thu Do Multimedia learned from a recent HubSpot Blog study:
56% of marketers who have used infographics say that it is one of the most effective content design trends for them.
52% of advertisers plan to invest the same amount of money in infographics in the next year.
The remaining 38% plan to focus more on infographics in the next year.
Infographics are effective because they are beautifully designed and provide useful information to viewers. An illustration is worth a thousand words.
Great Tools – Just For You!
There is no doubt that infographics are a great way to turn complex data and information into engaging and easy-to-understand graphics. The problem is that while it may seem simple to create an infographic, how do you actually design a professional one?
We have selected the top tools and apps for creating infographics. Some of them are easy to use for non-designers, with ready-made templates and other useful features.
Canva is a powerful online design tool (and infographic maker) that allows you to create a variety of designs even if you do not have any design knowledge.
Canva Content
Canva provides a huge range of templates for you to pick from based on your exact design needs. A lot of the templates themselves are free, and some include elements like icons and pictures that you can purchase or replace with your own elements).
Canva Content
Here’s a quick tutorial on how to use Canva for infographic design:
Similar to Canva, Venngage offers you a few different options to pick from in terms of what it is you want to create. You will find templates for things like reports, posters, promotions, and of course, infographics.
Within the infographic section, you will also find additional options to pick from that tend to deal with particular topics and categories of infographics, like:
Statistical
Informational
Process
Comparison
Timeline
Geographic
Charts
Tutorial
Once you find a template you like, it’s time to customize it! Venngage allows you to insert what they call “Widgets,” which can include things like maps and charts based on the specific info and data you have for your infographic.
Piktochart is another good option to create different types of infographics. You can pick from a few different formats, including a traditional infographic size (tall and skinny), presentation size (for slide decks), poster, and report.
You can then either create your own infographic from scratch or select one of their templates (some are free and others require you to either have a paid plan).
Once you have selected your template, you can simply drag and drop to add any graphic elements and text to your canvas. You can also upload your own images.
Easel.ly makes it really easy for you to create infographics. When you arrive on their main page, all you need to do is pick one of the many templates they offer. They also offer a way for you to search their template library by category.
Once you have found a template you like (or even when you start from scratch), you will be directed to a new window where you will be able to customize your infographic however you want. easel.ly provides a variety of tools such as backgrounds, shapes, text, charts, and more.

To effectively reach and engage audiences on these platforms, it’s essential to adapt content strategies to align with the unique preferences and behaviors of social media users. Online Copyright Infringement is becoming the ‘last straw’ with alarming violation numbers, billions in revenue losses, and thousands unemployed. Join Thu Do Multimedia in exploring the economic and social impacts, along with solutions to prevent this issue before the damage becomes irreparable.
What is Copyright Infringement? Do You Really Understand It?
Online copyright infringement involves the unauthorized copying, sharing, or use of copyrighted material without the owner’s consent.
Commonly infringed content includes music, movies, software, and video games, through peer-to-peer sharing channels, torrent sites, and illegal streaming platforms.
With the rapid development of the internet, copyright infringement has become increasingly accessible and widespread, posing serious challenges for content creators and businesses.
Types of Online Copyright Infringement
There are many types of online copyright infringement that are taking place in today’s digital world, the common ones that you are most likely to be involved in are:
Music Piracy
Downloading or streaming music without paying the copyright owner has become a huge problem. Illegal music sharing platforms and torrent sites have contributed greatly to the spread of this practice.
Movie and TV Piracy
This involves watching or downloading movies and TV shows without a license. Many websites offer free streaming services, attracting a large number of users and causing damage to the entertainment industry.
Software Piracy
Copying, distributing or using software without purchasing a license is a serious form of infringement that negatively affects software developers and companies.
E-book Piracy
Digital content such as e-books and audiobooks are also being heavily pirated, directly affecting authors and publishers.
The Serious Consequences of Online Piracy
No one wants their hard work to be “blatantly stolen” in just a few seconds. The problem of “piracy” is not only about sales, but also about ethics and human consciousness. The more it spreads and becomes “obvious”, the more people’s thoughts and wills will be distorted. Below is a deeper analysis of the serious consequences of “brain theft”.
Global Financial Losses
Online piracy is causing huge financial losses to industries around the world. In the United States, entertainment businesses lose $29.2 billion each year in online video piracy alone.
However, this impact is not limited to the film and television industry. The music, software, e-book and video game industries are also seriously affected. When content is shared and used illegally, companies lose a significant portion of their revenue, causing economic imbalances.
Businesses lose revenue, leading to cuts in investment, development costs, and ultimately profits. Not only private businesses, but also governments are affected by the loss of tax revenue from related industries.
Job Loss
In the United States, video piracy has resulted in the loss of between 230,000 and 560,000 jobs each year. This primarily affects creative and high-tech industries such as film production, music, software development, and video games.
Job losses affect directly related industries, spreading to support areas such as marketing, post-production, intellectual property management, and customer service. They suffer the most, as they do not have the resources to deal with the spread of piracy.
Hindering Technological Development
Piracy also creates major barriers to innovation and technological development. When businesses lose revenue due to piracy, they no longer have the motivation and finances to invest in research and development (R&D). This leads to delays in the implementation of new technologies, innovative products and breakthrough services.
For industries such as software and communications, continuous innovation is vital to stay competitive and meet consumer needs. When the motivation for innovation is reduced, not only businesses but the entire technology ecosystem slows down, affecting the progress of society as a whole.
Online Piracy Report: The Numbers Say It All
The Rise of Online Piracy
According to Go-Globe statistics, the number of visits made to pirated websites during the period 2023 – 2024 is 141 billion. This is an alarming number in the industry. In particular, the United States, Russia, and China contribute the highest number of visits.
Video (movies and TV shows) is the most pirated content, reaching 66% of the total pirated content. During the Covid 19 period, the number of global film piracy increased by 33% compared to the previous period.
The numbers say it all about the “piracy pandemic”
$9.8 billion in lost revenue in 2018 due to piracy in the music industry.
The United States loses $29.2 billion in revenue each year due to online video piracy.
An economic loss of $51.6 billion is due to online movie and TV piracy.
$300 million in publisher revenue is lost each year due to e-book piracy.
The United States loses between 230,000 and 560,000 jobs each year due to online video piracy.
37% of the software running in the world is unlicensed.
2 out of every 5 copies of software running in the world are unpaid.
Illegal streaming accounts for 80% of online video piracy.
24% of users download music from illegal sources.
26% of online users download movies or TV series from illegal sources.
13% of users download e-books or audiobooks from illegal sources.
Alarming numbers about online piracy
Looking at these statistics, it’s too terrible, right? The problem of copyright is really spreading and is difficult to handle thoroughly. The sophistication of hackers has illegally spread “private” resources into “public” ones without having to spend a penny and illegally gain huge profits from “black” content such as betting ads, 18+, gambling, football, etc.
Content creators and producers increasingly want to protect their digital assets in cyberspace, while users want to “freely” use the products they create. However, the ones who are most heavily affected are none other than the businesses and organizations that produce those billion-dollar content. Therefore, businesses and organizations always want to find optimal solutions to thoroughly solve this problem.
Who are the copyright infringement? Understanding demographics
Younger demographics, particularly Gen Z and Millennials, are more likely to engage in online piracy. There are several reasons for this trend:
Limited Disposable Income: Many individuals in these age groups are students or early-career professionals who might not have the financial means to pay for premium content, such as movies, TV shows, software, or music.
Tech-Savvy: These generations are more familiar with digital tools, peer-to-peer networks, and streaming technology, making it easier for them to engage in piracy.
Desire for Instant Access: Gen Z and Millennials tend to prioritize immediacy, seeking the latest content as soon as it becomes available. Piracy often provides a quicker route to access than waiting for legal streaming options.
Furthermore, cultural norms around online sharing differ between generations. The idea of freely sharing content, which has roots in early internet culture, continues to influence the behavior of these younger groups.

Have you ever watched a blockbuster movie that was leaked online before it was officially released? The feeling of the filmmakers at that time must have been like being “robbed of their brainchild”! That’s why watermarking technology was born, like a “ninja” to protect creative works from “idea thieves”.
Video piracy is becoming an increasingly serious problem in the world of online entertainment. In the sports industry in particular, this situation is causing worrying consequences.
According to a study by Parks Associates, the rate of users who pirate movies and TV shows online in the US is expected to increase from 22% in 2022 to 24.5% in 2027. This shows that the demand for illegal content is increasing.
What is watermarking? Do you understand it correctly?
Simply put, watermarking is the process of embedding an identifying mark (visible or invisible) into an image, video, audio file, etc. Imagine you are marking your territory. If someone tries to “steal” your work, this mark will help you easily identify the source of the theft when there is a warning sign on the server.
2 Most Common Types of Watermarking
Visible Watermarking
is the most recognizable and simplest technique, in which the watermark is placed directly on the original content, easily recognizable by the naked eye. Normally, the watermark will be a logo, text or image that is blurred or transparent so as not to affect the aesthetics of the work too much.
Visual watermarking is popular now
However, visible watermarks have certain limitations because they are easily removed or covered with photo editing tools. Therefore, “theft” can still occur even when the logo is attached to the business’s product.
Invisible watermarking
is a more sophisticated method in which the watermark is embedded into the pixels of an image, the audio samples, or the data bits of a file in a way that is difficult to detect. Extracting the invisible watermark requires specialized algorithms and software.
This method has the advantage of not affecting the quality of the original content and is more difficult to remove than visible watermarks. However, implementing invisible watermarks is more complex and requires specialized knowledge of signal processing.
If you want to protect the copyright of your digital content after posting it on an online platform, understand the important roles of watermark for your business products/services:
Copyright protection
The core function of watermarking is to protect copyright. By embedding a recognizable identifier (such as a logo or brand name) into digital content, businesses can legally prove ownership. This is crucial in preventing others from claiming ownership of your products.
Moreover, adding watermarks to digital products helps enhance brand recognition. When customers see your logo or name on each product, they are more likely to remember and recognize your brand. This not only increases professionalism but also enhances the credibility and reputation of your business in the market.
If you are a professional photographer, adding a watermark to your photos helps protect them from being used without your consent. At the same time, every photo with your logo helps promote your brand to a wider audience.
Preventing illegal copying
Illegal copying of digital content is a major issue in the online environment. Watermarks act as a protective layer by making copying more difficult. When users download content that includes a watermark without the owner’s permission, they cannot use it legally, or its quality will be significantly reduced due to third-party software used to remove the watermark.
This significantly reduces unauthorized copying and protects the true value of the business’s products. Furthermore, watermarks may discourage those attempting to copy, as removing the watermark is not easy and will degrade the product’s quality.
Benefits of Preventing Copying:
Protects the value and quality of your brand in the eyes of customers.
Reduces revenue loss caused by illegal copying of products.
Ensures that your products are not used for unlawful or undesirable purposes.
Track usage
n addition to protecting copyright and preventing copying, watermarks also help businesses track and manage the distribution of their content. When a digital product (such as an image, video, or document) is shared without permission or downloaded from unreliable sources, the watermark can help identify the origin of the leak, allowing timely action.
Moreover, modern watermark technology enables the tracking of usage metrics and the extent of content distribution. This allows businesses to better control their intellectual property, ensuring that products are used only within legal and authorized boundaries.
Today, the application of watermarking has become popular in many areas of life
In the entertainment industry, including movies, videos, TV shows, etc. Reality TV shows often embed watermarks in recorded footage to prevent unauthorized rebroadcasts on other TV channels or online platforms.
The film producer 20th Century Fox used watermarks to protect the copyright of trailers and behind-the-scenes images of the film. These watermarks are usually the studio logo or the film name placed in the corner of the image or in the moving frames.
It is also widely used in the publishing industry to protect the copyright of books, magazines, documentsor to protect online lectures in online courses. Online learning platforms such as Coursera and Udemy often embed watermarks in video lectures to prevent copying of courses and commercialization.
In the music industry, platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music have used watermark to manage the music copyrights of artists, allowing only subscribers to enjoy songs, playlists of idols or the latest music. In music, copyright is very strict, just violating music copyright will cause the video to be removed or muted.
Gaming industry: Watermarks are used to protect digital game assets, such as 3D models, textures and sounds. Copyrighting games is not copied and plagiarized.
What will be different about the future of watermarking?
The future of watermarking is promising thanks to the development of artificial intelligence (AI). The application of AI to the process of creating and detecting watermarks will bring significant breakthroughs:
Creating smart, complex, hard-to-detect and highly customizable watermarks. Instead of simple, static watermarks, AI can create dynamic watermarks that change over time or context, enhancing protection.
Integration with other technologies: Watermark will be more deeply integrated with technologies such as blockchain, to create a more comprehensive and reliable copyright protection system. Blockchain can help store watermark information securely and immutably, creating a digital copyright registry.
Or application to new fields such as virtual reality, augmented reality and the Internet of Things. For example, watermark can be used to protect 3D models, virtual reality experiences, or sensor data. Watermark is not only a protection for conventional digital products, but in the future, it will be powerful and protect all areas of technology.
The difference between DRM and Watermarking
DRM and watermarking are separate but complementary strategies used in the field of video streaming security. DRM acts as a “full-fledged fortress,” protecting digital content by encrypting it and controlling access through licensing mechanisms. Its main goal is to prevent unauthorized viewing, copying, or distribution.
Sigma DRM
In contrast, watermarking is a sophisticated but powerful technique that involves embedding invisible marks directly into content, allowing traceability in the event of a leak or unauthorized sharing. While DRM focuses on restricting access, watermarking acts as a forensic tool, allowing the source of unauthorized distribution to be identified.
The key difference lies in their primary functions: DRM is the “gatekeeper,” ensuring that only authorized users can access and use content, while watermarking is the “detective,” leaving an indelible trace for identification after the event. DRM operates secretly in the background, while watermarking can leave a faint trace that can be detected if actively searched for.
A combination of both technologies is often applied, leveraging DRM for strong access control and adding watermarks for traceability, creating a multi-faceted defense against the multi-faceted challenges posed by unauthorized access and distribution in the dynamic video streaming landscape.

The world is facing serious problems with pirated applications. Even Vietnam, a developing country, is ranked third in Southeast Asia in terms of illegal content distribution rate. Let’s learn about the consequences of this behavior with Thu Do Multimedia and future trend of app protection in the upcoming years!
Pirate of the digital sea!
Pirated app are software, games or other applications that are copied, distributed, installed or used without the permission of the copyright owner. In other words, they are digital products that are “cracked” or “unlocked” for free use or at a lower price than the original.
The proliferation of pirated applications has become a pressing issue in today’s digital age, with far-reaching consequences for both individuals and businesses. This problem is particularly urgent due to the following reasons:
Loss of Revenue for Software Developers
The widespread availability of pirated applications poses a significant threat to the revenue of software developers. By offering free or discounted alternatives to legitimate software, pirated applications divert potential customers away from paying for licensed versions.
This loss of revenue can have a devastating impact on developers’ ability to sustain their businesses and invest in future projects. As a result, the development of innovative new software may be hindered, leading to a less vibrant and dynamic digital ecosystem.
Security Risks and Data Breaches
The pervasive use of pirated applications poses a serious threat to the security of devices and networks. These applications often contain malicious code, such as malware and viruses, which can infiltrate systems and compromise sensitive data.
Once installed, these harmful elements can steal personal information, financial data, and other valuable assets, leading to data breaches and identity theft. This not only causes financial loss but also damages individuals’ reputations and can have long-lasting consequences.
Legal Implications
The act of pirating applications is a flagrant violation of copyright laws, which protect the intellectual property of software developers. Those caught using pirated software may face legal repercussions, including fines, lawsuits, and potential damage to their reputation.
Businesses that are found to be in violation of copyright laws may suffer significant financial losses, damage to their brand, and even legal action. This can have a devastating impact on their operations and future prospects.
Disruption of the Digital Ecosystem
Pirated applications create an unfair playing field, giving them an advantage over legitimate software developer. The widespread use of pirated software can undermine the entire software industry, leading to job losses and economic instability.
Ethical Concerns
The use of pirated software can inadvertently support illegal activities such as organized crime and money laundering. By purchasing pirated software, individuals may be unknowingly funding criminal organizations that engage in these illicit activities. This can have serious consequences for society, including increased violence, corruption, and economic instability.
Furthermore, pirating applications is a form of theft that deprives creators of the fruits of their labor. Software developers invest significant time, effort, and resources into creating their products. When these products are pirated, their hard work is stolen, and they are denied the fair compensation they deserve. This can discourage innovation and reduce the overall quality and quantity of software available to consumers.
Consequences for developers
Loss of Revenue
The widespread availability of pirated applications poses a significant threat to the revenue of software developers. By offering free or discounted alternatives to legitimate software, pirated applications divert potential customers away from paying for licensed versions.
This loss of revenue can have a devastating impact on developers’ ability to sustain their businesses and invest in future projects. As a result, the development of innovative new software may be hindered, leading to a less vibrant and dynamic digital ecosystem.
Especially with the current hit games like Resident Evil 4 or The Silent Hills, the producers have had to spend millions of dollars on production costs. And the pirated applications floating on the market of this game have greatly affected the revenue of CAPCOM.
Pirated versions of the game “Resident Evil 4” were illegally posted on Reddit
Loss of Creative Motivation
The lack of recognition and financial reward for their work can diminish developers’ enthusiasm and motivation. When developers see their efforts exploited through piracy, it can lead to a sense of discouragement and a loss of drive.
This loss of motivation can have a direct impact on the quality and quantity of software being produced, as developers may become less invested in their work and less likely to take risks or pursue innovative projects.
Brand Damage
The widespread availability of pirated versions of their software can damage the reputation of developers and their products. When consumers are able to easily access pirated copies of software, it can create the perception that the software is not valuable or worth paying for. This can damage the reputation of both the software and the developer, making it more difficult to attract new customers and compete with rivals.
Furthermore, the existence of pirated software can make it more difficult for developers to justify the price of their legitimate products. If consumers can obtain similar software for free, they may be less willing to pay for the legitimate version, even if it offers additional features or benefits. This can put pressure on developers to lower their prices, which can reduce their profitability and make it harder to invest in future projects.
The On-going solution
To combat the issue of pirated app, it is essential to educate the public about the negative consequences of using them and promote understanding of intellectual property rights.
Public Awareness Campaigns
Launching targeted campaigns can effectively inform individuals and businesses about the risks associated with pirated app.
These campaigns can highlight the potential security threats, legal implications, and ethical concerns associated with using such software. By showcasing real-world examples of data breaches, lawsuits, and financial losses, these campaigns can create a strong sense of urgency and motivate people to make informed choices.
Maybe one article is not enough, but if the whole community speaks up, pirated apps will no longer be a problem!
Intellectual Property Rights Education
Promoting understanding of intellectual property rights is another crucial step. Educational initiatives can be implemented in schools, workplaces, and community centers to teach people about the concept of copyright and the importance of respecting creators’ work.
By emphasizing the value of intellectual property and the legal consequences of infringement, these initiatives can foster a culture of respect for creators’ rights and encourage individuals to support legitimate software.
Collaboration with Stakeholders
To maximize the impact of awareness campaigns and education initiatives, it is essential to collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, educational institutions, industry organizations, and media outlets. By working together, these entities can develop comprehensive strategies and leverage their resources to reach a wider audience and create a lasting impact.
Improved Legal Framework
The existing copyright laws and regulations may require updates to provide stronger protection for software developers. This can involve increasing penalties for copyright infringement, expanding the scope of legal protections, and streamlining enforcement procedures. By strengthening the legal framework, we can create a more deterring environment for those who engage in piracy.
